Vancouver's bill for 2010 Olympics, Paralympics is $553.1 million

Olympics Bill doesn't include cost of taking over $1 billion Olympic Village project: Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games this year cost Vancouver, B.C., slightly less than it takes to run the city itself for an entire year. A report going before the city council next week estimates Vancouver spent $727.6 million on infrastructure and operations to host the world for the 27 days of competition. It recouped $174.5 million from provincial and the federal governments, leaving a bill of $553.1 million.

That doesn't include the cost of taking over the $1 billion Olympic Village project after the primary financier balked. Vancouver's overall operational budget for 2010 was $959 million. NBC loses $223 million on Games in first quarter: NBC lost $223 million on the Winter Olympics in the first quarter. That is slightly better than the most recent estimate of $250 million in losses.

College basketball Missouri coach Anderson signed seven-year extension last year: One year after signing a seven-year, $10.85 million contract extension at Missouri, Mike Anderson is talking with Oregon about its coaching job.

Missouri spokesman Dave Reiter said the university gave Oregon permission to speak with Anderson. The Oregonian newspaper said it confirmed Anderson has met with Pat Kilkenny, a former Oregon athletic director who is leading the search for a coach to replace the fired Ernie Kent.

UCLA signs JC guard: UCLA has signed junior-college guard Lazeric Jones, who will be a junior next season after transferring from John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.

Michigan State duo is returning: Guards Durrell Summers and Kalin Lucas of Michigan State announced they will return for their senior seasons rather than turn pro.Moore wins Honda award: Connecticut's Maya Moore has won the Honda Sports Award for basketball.

College football

Leach contends Texas Tech officials conspired to fire him: Attorneys for Mike Leach claim in new court filings that a top Texas Tech administrator and two members of its board of regents "secretly agreed" to fire him before the school had to pay him an $800,000 bonus.

Information in the documents came from depositions and electronic communications between university officials that Leach's attorneys have gathered in his lawsuit against the university. Leach was fired Dec. 30.

Gymnastics

Michigan excels: Chris Cameron of Michigan scored a 15.450 on the vault in West Point, N.Y., which gave him enough points to capture the NCAA all-around title.

Cameron's finish helped propel Michigan to its first team title in 11 seasons. The Wolverines beat runner-up Stanford by 0.7 points.

Tennis

Wozniacki advances, Jankovic exits: Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark advanced to the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nadia Petrova of Russia in Charleston, S.C.

Second-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia was upset by Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Nadal, Djokovic reach semifinals: Rafael Nadal of Spain moved into the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters with a 6-4, 6-2 victory Friday over countryman Juan Carlos Ferrero, extending his winning streak in the clay-court event to 30 matches.

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-2, 6-3. Soccer Semifinals, final of World Cup are sold out: About 130,000 tickets for this year's World Cup in South Africa were sold in the first 36 hours of the final phase, and the semifinals and final are sold out.

Inter Milan wins to take Serie A lead: Maicon scored in the 75th minute and Samuel Eto'o added a goal in injury time to give Inter Milan a 2-0 victory over 10-man Juventus that reclaimed the lead in Serie A, Italy's top league. Inter Milan has 70 points and AS Roma has 68 entering its Sunday match against Lazio.
