Today the strained relationship between Team USA skaters Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso got worse. Mancuso started the giant slalom before Lindsey Vonn had untangled herself from the netting after a crash. This caused Mancuso to be flagged off the giant slalom course.
Before this, Mancuse had taken a shot at Lindsey Vonn in the Sports Illustrated report saying that the 'popularity contest' was hurting the Team USA ski team.Mancuse said, "People are having a hard time reaching their potential because it's such a struggle for attention," Mancuso told Sports Illustrated. "You come to meetings after races and it's like it's a bad day if Lindsey didn't do well."
Vonn was "bummed out" about Mancuso's statements, and Vonn says she supports Mancuso.Because Mancuso left during unsafe racing conditions, she had to wait 13 skiers to complete her giant slalom run, which caused her to be in 18th place after the second run.Lindsey Vonn crashed and tumbled into the safety net, and she and broke her finger in the accident.
Mancuso later Tweeted (which was later taken down):"i was flagged in gs, that is [expletive]! well now its time to use that anger and fight scond run!!"This latest incident just adds more fuel to the fire of the already strained relationship between the American rivals.
